Altho not directly related to the heater core job, this is for those who ask why the Vette isn't in the garage to be worked on. THIS is in the garage, I have owned it for about 35 years and I'm restoring it to pretty much original, including the utility box. (I always get a kick out of old trucks at cruise-ins which are lettered up for what they were years ago).
It's a 1966 3/4 ton, original 283, 3-speed had been moved to the floor but will be going back to the column. First shot is when it was still on the road, second is more recent but not current, I've made more progress since then. You can see why I can't roll it out and roll the Vette in!

Here's a minor error in the FSM you may want to correct. Again, we're talking about a 1992 here.
On page 8C-21, left column, INSIDE AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR. The next line reads "Figures 24 and 48". The second figure number should read 49, NOT 48.
Not a biggie since both the incorrect and the correct figures appear on the same page of the manual (8C-42). But FWIW, now you know.

NEED HELP ON THIS ONE.
Very simple step but I'm trying not to force things and snap plastic. Step 21 is "Remove fuse block from carrier". The block has a tab at the bottom which I can gently pry up to release. Pic below. But something is still holding it at the top and I just can't see what it is I'm supposed to release. It does not help that when I put my head down in there and look outward, I'm looking toward the sun - might have to put a sheet of corrugated to block the light.
Any suggestions?

Perfect. I was wondering if a HUD would fit in there. Looks like not really is the answer.

Well, some gentle pushing, prodding and prying got the fuse block out. Little by little!

OK, reassembly has started altho once again my schedule is such that I can't just buckle down and see it through. I have 2 pics here - one is the devastation once the core is out.
The other is a mystery part which dropped down from somewhere while I was taking the rear half of the heater core case out. I can't immediately see where it came from. Anybody know where it goes?

THAT must be what they mean by Step 25 "Side window defroster duct (center) extension (in heater case)". Could not figure out what they meant until now it makes sense.

Well, reassembly was chugging merrily along - until now. This might turn out to be the biggest PITA of the whole project.
Re-installing the "multi-use bracket" and how in blue blazes do you get all those wires back into where they came out of? I recall having to coax them out when taking it apart, they fit in pretty snug. But now it's like trying to put 5 pounds of crap into a 3 pound bag!!
Suggestion if you are going to tackle this - take several pics along the bracket (the long black plastic thing) to help you figure which wires go into it, under it, over it, etc.
This was taken while taking it apart. LOOKS like it should all just go back into place. But it sure does not want to.

UPDATE - Been so busy the forum thread got neglected. But I DID get the car up and running although I have a couple things left to snug up etc. Such as putting in the passenger seat.
And despite my preaching to everybody on here, and reminding myself as well, I did manage to misplace some screws. I was able to put things together without all of them and when the errant bag or bags turns up I'll back up a few steps and put them in.
Summary - I learned a lot, and I think having been through it once, I could do another one out and in, in one day. I have made a good outline and have pics of almost every step in the process. I'm not sure if the forum would want a detailed illustrated instruction thread but maybe when I get a chance I'll organize everything.
So if you are planning this for your '92, it CAN be done. The very long time it took me was more a function of my not staying with it steadily, plus the fact it was outside and thus subject to rain, cold etc. Given a garage, and a clear block of time to stay with the project for more than a half hour at a time, it would go a lot quicker. If you have reasonable experience, you can do this. (Having a stubborn streak would certainly be a help! )
Hope this helps someone - if you have questions I'll try to answer them.

Brian, I'll give you a "thanks" for all the support. Many members here have offered helpful info but you having done yours fairly recently was a great source of details!
And another THANKS to all those who posted with encouragement and input!
(I DID get the seat in tonight and the better half and I went out for dinner in the Vette. Sure feels good to be driving it again!)

One thing I learned is there are big differences over the various years of C-4's. I did some searches on here before starting, and several guys mentioned the one bolt on the heater case which is totally buried and impossible to see.
So I bought one of those digital inspection cameras from Harbor Freight as suggested. When I got to that point of the project, lo and behold on a '92 that problem does not exist, all the bolts are visible and reasonably accessible.

I pulled my heater core tonight and when I pulled the upper dash off I noticed this unit had this blue and white plug unplugged from it. Any idea what this is or why it would me unplugged?
