Ok i finally got my hands on a used BMW 530d transmission. Its called ZF GS6-53DZ and its the most powerful BMW transmissions out there.

The price was ok so i figure why not. Today did some measures for an adapter between the ZF and the LS. I need to space it out 25mm to clear the 153 tooth flywheel. And then i need to space the clutch assembly closer to the tranny due to the short input axle. What do you guys think would be the best option? Either i put a flexplate and a crank spacer for the flywheel or i keep the flywheel in current position and make a spacer for the pressure plate with a metal plate for the clutch disc.

I did a couple of example drawings to show you.

Please let me know, maybe someone have tried this before?

Thanks
/Svante.

Ok, i finally solved the BMW ZF transmission issue ( i think ).
I made an adapterflange between the motor and the transmission ( 25mm thick ) the transmission input shaft was already to short to mate up with the LM7 crank pilot bearing and clutch splines, so i had to extend the flywheel. This was done with a 40mm thick aluminium plate cut down to 36.55mm final thickness. It took a lot of milling/turning and my cnc lathe is too small for this diameter so i had to do it manually. But i´m happy with the result and the whole package is zero balanced.

Most of the guys i know cut their transmission bellhousing and weld the correct bolt pattern bellhousing on. But that is a hell if i destroy the tranny and need to install another one. Thats why i did it like this.

Now i have an old rusty piece of ford 9 that i will begin working on to replace the D44.

sure strong gears, but can you be banging gears. with your mad skills, get it inspected and put the lenco back

thanks for posting up. I'd consider a transzilla t56 if you can smuggle one in your luggage

too many parts *****

you should also reach out to the ZF doc concerning a ZF 6 speed. He can cryo and blueprint a box to handle around 600 ft lbs or more

Shame the OP hasn’t been back in 3 years. Would be curious to see how this trans swap worked out.

Hi Svante, I am building a similar project. I`am mounting the same gearbox to a jaguar XJR supercharged engine and i also have to make an adaptorplate. Could you en would you share the bolt hole pattern of the gearbox with me? That would spare me a lot of work and costs. I tryed to PM you but i probably have not yet those rights.
