89 fuel gauge reading off- any way to adjust?
I've had my 89 for a week now- I really like it. I've only had to mess with knit-knoid stuff and the car is in really pretty good shape. I've put about 350 on it (which is more than it has had in the last couple of years) and it is rock solid.
Everything works well except that my gas gauge is off. I filled it last week and drove it for a while. I went to fill today and the gauge showed 2/3 however it took 12 gallons to fill. My guess is that 2/3 should have taken 7-8ish as the tank is 20?
Is this a simple "pull the float out and bend the arm till accurate" or something else? I ask as this is my first "Atari" dash (so super cool 80's) and the rest of the car is SO dead on that I have to ask if there is some sort of calibration?
Thanks!

I would drive it through a few tankfuls before you do anything. GM is famous for their fuel gauges not being linear, ie, the first 1/4 tank will not give you the same distance as the last 1/4 tank. My 03 Grand Prix gets 350-400 mi per tank, but the gauge does not move off the full mark until close to 100 mi. Depending on the kind of driving you do you should get 300+ mi per tank.

Thanks- that is exactly what my neighbor (he has a 96GS) said. He also said that the needle will move slowly at first then "become more accurate" as the tank empties.
Funny my 91 reads pretty accurate throughout the range.
I'll keep an eye on it.
