After stopping at the store and retuning to my car. Tried to start key turn dash lights worked turned nothing headlights did not dim, no sound of starter clicking, put in neutral back to park nothing. waited for my son tried again and started. Any suggestion on what to check?

Ground and battery connections immediately come to mind.

Yes, it sounds like a loose connection to me.

I had the same problem with my 91. After you check all the cable connections, battery, starter enable relay,ect. you will probably need a starter, or at least a solenoid. Engine and exhaust heat kills them. After cool down for 30-45 min. they will work again.
If you are handy with tools you can get a solenoid rebuild kit pretty cheap compared to a starter. Don't let some kid at Auto Zone, Advance, ect. tell you that their cheap rebuilt starters will work on a Corvette.
I think Nippondenso made the starters for C-4's untill 92.
