remove smog piping from exhaust manifold
I have a 1985 corvette and would like to remove the 8 small (4 on each side) smog pipes from the exhaust manifold. Has any body done this? I'm thinking using a small air circular cut off wheel and then tape the holes and insert threaded hex plugs. I am doing this for off road use and on roads in Mexico and no I do not want to install headers. Thank you

You can cut the tubes and use a socket. May wanna use some penetrating oil on it overnight or heat it up those things are stubborn. Used to leave them on but cut it off where it hung down in the port.
If youre cleaning up the engine bay by removing the pump cool...dont expect a power gain though.
We all did that 70-90s, throw smog pumps, PS and AC in the trash thinking we would go faster.
note most old school cars are missing the compressor lol

Given all the effort, why not just put headers on it?
I know you don't want to...
But...
Yeah. Hedman's are pretty inexpensive.

Still can claim less than 1 year ownership and still learning all these details about these C4s. Those^^^are from a buddies '87 C4. At the time he cleaned up his exhaust manifolds, he was barely out of high school. His dad is a very talented welder.
What I meant was the young lad tig'd that up himself with help from his pops.

Didnt know those were pressed in, duh!
Tapping plugging isnt a bad idea if you cant weld.
