When someone installed the LT1 the had to transfer at least the LT1 harness with it. So you will need the ZR1 engine and transmission with the harness. It possible you will need passenger compartment harnesses. If car was a stripped or partially stripped shell and persons used a LT1 car as a donor for everything missing. It's not going to be an easy project unless you happen has a wrecked car to transfer parts from.

Are you sure? That might take a bit of work to convert it, I would think. ECM and harness at least? Did you check it by the VIN to be sure before you go that route?

Somebody did what to a ZR1?
Pull the RPO codes and the VIN and post them here.

I'd like to know were you're planning on get an LT5 engine...they are not common and are not easy to get a hold of.
Besides I'm not sure I'm buying this post, not that the LT1 isn't a nice engine, but one would have to be a complete moron to swap out LT5 in a ZR1 for an LT1!

Wrong engines end up in cool cars all the time. I doubt it was because owner wanted LT1. Broken LT5 then parked for a while.... Not entirely related uncle had a 69 rs z28 new. Grandfather ended up with the car when the uncle couldn't keep up with the payments. My grandfather died in 70 before he could have the engine and transmission changed out for a regular v8 and automatic transmission. So you never know. btw car was sold unaltered in 71. To some people it's just a car.

So you bought it with an LT1 auto in it and the seller told you it was really a Z?
Then you say you want to re install your LT5?
Can you clarify this?

I am not buying the OP story at all.
Someone told him it was a ZR-1 and he probably believed them.
Without the RPO codes or pictures, nobody here will be convinced.

im 100% sure
1: i bout the car with two engines Lt1 installed LT5 extra
2: i checked VIN and its zr1 matching numbers with the engine i have
3 the previous owner changed the engine in 2001 because of wiring problems with lt5
4: my car is one of only two zr1 in my country, that's why he did the swap cuz no parts available

Damn....that looks like a pretty major undertaking....but I wish you the best; putting that car "back" is the right thing to do.

Why did the previous owner swap out the LT5 for the LT1? Before you spend a lot of time on this project, you need to find out why!! I'll bet it was for more than an electrical part he couldn't find. Is that engine healthy? I'd suspect you'll find some very serious problems! Somebody spent a ton of money to make that conversion, and I'm betting that you'll need several tons of money to put it back together!
That pile of parts has obviously been seriously abused since they came out of the car 16 years ago! The engine wasn't even sealed??!! Even IF that engine was good when it was removed from the car, it will need a complete tear-down and rebuild after being stored in a filthy environment! Are you an excellent mechanic and an electrical wizard? Do you know excellent mechanics and electrical wizards?
Where are you located?
Good luck!!

This is either the best troll job ever posted, or the person that did this needs an IQ test to prove functionality.
I'll believe it 100% when the photos of the paperwork and car are shown as a match.
If it is real, the car and parts are certainly not worth what it will cost to do the job right.
My advice is to part it out on ebay. UNLESS you have a nice shop, money and skills.
