Default Texas Cold front-- according to my Climate Control

I just popped in a used climate control into my 89. It is the C68 version. This is a temp model while I have BATEE rebuild my original.

Everything seems to work except the "Outside temp" which reads -39. My old one read the outside correctly, so my guess is that the sensor on the front of the car is good.

Do these units need to go through a calibration period or do it chalk it up to the fact that I got the control unit from Canada (serious) and that its never seen upper 90s?

Or is this function broken. It is not going to bug me too much as it is a temp, so I'm just curious.

I don't think there is a calibration to this. Are you sure that while pulling the old one out and pushing the new one in, you didn't loosen a wire? Get the FSM and see which color wire it is and check. People pulling out a plug and re-inserting it sometimes can loosen a wire and make you chase around for it. Ask me how I know.

Never mind...

I took the car out for a drive (actually a beer and snack run) and the temp gauge went "-39, -38, -37, +99"...... just like that.

When I drove home it was 99/100 the whole way. The "official" temp said 98 so I'll take it. looks like there was a weird calibration of sorts?

Interesting question because I was researching an issue with my A/C earlier today and read the answer to your question in the FRM. The temperature shown when you turn the key to run is the last stored number assuming 3 hours have past since shutdown (that unit must have been removed in the dead of winter up there on Canada). It will then refresh AFTER the vehicle exceeds 25mph for 3 min. or exceeding 45mph for 1.5 min. They referred to this function as "filtering results".
Lots of little details on these cars even given their age.

I'll take 100 degrees in Texas verses -39 up north.

I don't have to shovel the heat.

Maybe not but snow is not a daily thing. When it is cold, I can put on more clothes. When it is hot I can only take so much off before it is indecent exposure
