What prompts "Change Engine Oil" light ?
1994 C4 LT-1...is it miles since reset? or severe usage? Time passed since reset?
The last change was at 64,600 in 12/16...9 months ago. Current mileage is 68,537. Oil used was Mobil-1 5W-30.
Oil level shows full...oil looks good.
How do I reset this light?
OK...just found it..
1. Turn the key to “Run,” but don’t start
2. Press “ENG MET” on the Trip
the engine.
Monitor. Then, within five seconds,
press it again.
3. Within five seconds, press and hold
“GAUGES” on the Trip Monitor. The
“CHANGE OIL” light should flash.
4. Hold the “GAUGES” button until the
“CHANGE OIL” light stops flashing
and goes out. This should take about
ten seconds.
When the light goes out, the monitoirs
reset. If the monitor doesn’tr eset, turn the
ignition off, then try again.
Thanks.

I am not an expert but what I understand is that it is a whole bunch of things. Mileage, length of trips, oil temperature, RPM, and who knows what else. Suffice it to say if you normally drive only 10 miles a trip and constantly hit 5000 rpm and your cooling system is half clogged up and the oil is always over 260 degrees it will call for a quicker oil change than someone who always drives at least 100 miles a trip and drives like an old women and has a perfect cooling system.

Temperature is a key factor
cold starts, operation below 40* and operating temperature. Overheating will click off oil life rapidly. The calculation is based on the correct oil. If you run regular oil in an lt1 computer won't know it and won't turn light on until long after oil has deteriorated. Just as running mobil1 verses base oil calculation will turn light on before oil has deteriorated where it should be changed. With most owners driving less than 5 k miles per year oil change is a annual thing.

I had less than 1000 miles on my 91 LT5 and the light reappeared.
I just reset the light and won't worry about it. There is no rhyme or reason.

There is both rhyme and reason. It is a CALCULATION. You probably operated your car in such a way that they system calc'ed a need to change.
I just did mine when the light came on; 7000 miles and 1.2 years. I DD my car in the summer and it's all highway miles...car runs right around 185-195...so about optimal.
