Why is the small fan running on left side of radiator.
When I start my 1993 Corvette cold, I can hear the sound of a fan blowing. I lifted the hood with the engine still running . The sound is coming from a small fan located in front of the left front wheel well below the headlight. It is not one of the cooling fans. They are not running. The engine is still cold. This small fan has a air duct attached. The duct is approximately 1.5 inches in diameter. What is this fan and what controls it?

It's supposed to run at start up. It pumps fresh air into the exhaust system upstream of the catalytic converters to bring them up to temp faster. It's strictly for emissions and should shut down a short time after a cold start.
