Transmission 4L60E gear usage question, and rr hatch?
Because my car has that ridiculous 2.59 rear end....and I live in an area with 45-55mph speed limits.....can I just keep the gear selector in 2 or D while driving for long periods? There is no traffic here....
Would this help minimize the apparently dreaded 3/4 wear?
1100rpm @ 55 in OD is ridiculous and fuel mileage isn't an issue....lots of hills here too, so tranny doing a lot of hunting D-OD-D-OD....etc.
ALSO, since I have you..... is the rear window supposed to be hard to close that last 2-3" or so?
Thanks

Not a sure why you would want to drive in 2nd at 55mph. You're not going to save your tranny but you will unnecessarily put more wear on your motor. If you don't want od, leave the selector in drive. As far as your hatch, try spraying the struts with wd40.

I would use D or 3rd. Running in second world cause some wear concerns in the long term. Other choice would be to change final drive ratio to 3.07 +. I went to a 3.73

Sorry. Around town I leave it in "2" as the speed limit is 35-ish.
"D" seems to have a lock up function as the tach seems to drop a few hundred rpm under light load/coast, then rev back up those few hundred rpm when accelerating lightly. I recall reading about the converter clutch or converter pin? being a weak spot in the 4L60 ?
"OD" is REDICULOUSLY high and I have full intentions now to change rear ends.....2.59? Who the hells idea was that? This is a sports car !
anyway, thanks for the help as always !

Oh, the rear hatch doesn't need lubrication.....I'm curious if it's springloaded at the very last closing bit ?
