stock cast iron exhaust manifolds LT1 1996 left and right side confusion
I am replacing some stock LT1 1996 cast iron exhaust manifolds on to a car that had headers for many years, my question is when I removed them many years ago, I did not mark "left" and "right", and they look identical. Any stamping numbers must be covered up by the heat shielding.
Are these reversible? Left and Right sides?

They are the same including the heat shields.
If you're using the '96 manifolds on an earlier LT1 I believe you use the later gaskets/donuts for the '96 to the converter.

Thanks WVZR-1, And for the rest, some pics attached here show they appear identical. These are the exact manifolds I removed on this 1996 LT1 about 16 years ago. Look closely and you cannot see any difference between the front and back so they can be swapped left to right, everything is symmetrical. Yes, these will be cleaned up a bit, I just dug em' out of the basement, complete with spider webs.
Not a trick question, I was stumped. And now you know some useful information.

WVZR1 hit it exactly.
I looked it up in my parts book and the left and right side are both 12554232. That number includes the shields.

I would remove the heat shields and check them for cracks before installing them. I have seen many over the years with these same cracks.

In a Corvette the LT1 manifolds are identical and could be swapped any year. The '96 uses a donut with a sleeve insert into the manifolds to converter, all previous years have the machined ball flange to seal against the converter.

Good deal. I found a good pair of LT1 manifolds with no cracks. Had them bead blasted and ceramic coated.
As a side note, if anyone is looking for LT1 manifolds with no cracks in good working order, I have two on the shelf.
