Default Nitrous users: take a look at this wiring

Hey guys. I snagged some solenoids in a decent buy online but I was a little curious about this wiring job. Have a look. Fuel solenoid wiring

and here's the nitrous solenoid wiring

Any special reason why these were jumper wired together? Purge solenoid was the only one not jumper wired like the fuel and nitrous. Is this advantageous? Most wiring diagrams do not have this indicated.

Those look like the anti-spike diodes put across inductive loads like compressor clutches. I don't like the twisted wires but the heat shrink and diodes are quality work.

Extra insurance? I'm not sure what's going on with the twisting and soldering either but I think I'm going to get them off and wire it according to Nitrous Outlet's website diagrams, minus these.

You've got the solenoids. Do your own wiring. Black to ground, red to switched 12V. All you need. Perhaps the jumped wires were the grounds. That's ok.

Those look to be the TVS Diodes included with the Lingenfelter LNC-2000. They're intended to knock down fly back voltage. I can't see a reason that you would need them.

Thanks! And if this is Houston posting for Nitrous Outlet on here, thanks for your help in the past on some other parts I had questions on that I purchased. You guys have first class customer support.

383vett, you’re right: less worrying, more wiring them up how I want them.

Fly back can easily get into 3 digit voltages and not a trivial
deal

Your switches will last longer with the diodes, too! Cathode (stripe) goes to positive.

Here's a little test, if you're not convinced:

For this test, don't use a switch, use two wires you can touch together. With no diode across your solenoid, watch for a small spark as you disconnect the wires.
Put the diode across the solenoid, then do the test again. Notice there's no spark!
When you have the diode in the circuit, the current spike goes thru the diode rather than the switch!
