It seems high just to replace seal. Which can be done. If shop is going to replace seal, housing and oil pan gaskets maybe okay. It depends on local labor rates. I would shop around and know exactly what you are getting. The one piece rear main seals don't leak very often. Most leaks come from the top: rear edge of intake described as"China Wall" , oil switch, or valve covers. You may want second opinion. Oil dye and a black light can accurately show were leak is coming from.

Rear main seal replacement is a pretty serious job on a LT1....

Got to remove the trans and TQ converter or trans and clutch/FW assembly.

$900 sounds about right.

As stated make sure it is not the back of the intake manifold/block china rail leaking and then running down the back of the engine/trans..... LT1's are famous for this leak being mis-diagnosed as rear main seal. Fixing that back of the intake leak is a much easier and cheaper job.

I had the manifold seal replaced recently... What is the best way to make sure manifold seal is not leaking? Can I see that from the top rear view with a flashlight?... I'm thinking I should see a wet mess dripping down from somewhere?
Also, I recently had the valve cover seals done so I'm not thinking that's it.
