Default Trying to identify what this is in my trans. pan

I just dropped my trans pan on my 1988 700r4 with about 3 months on a rebuild. I was checking my fluid level and the fluid had a slight burn smell to it as well as a little darker tint to it. I run full synthetic trans fluid in it.I'm gonna try and post a couple of pics. I ran my finger thru the magnetic block to distort what ever it collected, im not even sure if that is what it even is.
A close up of same block on bottom of pan

I have done trans services on all domestic car models through 2003. Looks pretty normal to me. All those magnets are covered in schitt.

I change fluid in my vehicles at 30-40K intervals, in service that is much harder on the transmissions than a Corvette (Corvettes don't tow), and it isn't nearly that dark. Sort of a dark red. Not black.
Yeah the color does not inspire confidence, that being said, every single one of those magnets is covered in slimy ferrous material. My advice is to reassemble (with something besides a cork pan gasket) and continue driving.

That amount of metal on the magnet is normal for a tranny with 80,000 miles, not three months. The fluid appears to be burnt. Take the pan and fluid to your tranny shop. If they stand behind their work, they will probably want to redo it.

NFW that is right. I had my 4R100 trans rebuilt and 30K later took it in for service since I happened to be near the build shop on a vacation. I speculated that there might be stuff in it. Builder told me that if anything besides clean fluid came out, he'd service it. If not, I would buy pizza. Suffice to say, the pizza was good.
