Default anyone running 5-.600 lift with Eagle 383 balanced assembly?

Cam choice for 5.7 eagle rods on roller 383. Anyone running standard base circle with this rotating assembly? Small base circle cams "Retro-Fit" are for non-roller blocks? Would prefer to have clearances good before assembly. Any help here is appreciated. will .575 lift clear?

You will probably have to clearance the rods on the shoulder. Cylinders 1,2 5 and 6 the rods try to hit the cam. Cylinder #2 is probably the worst offender. If you have a basecircle of 1.00 or .950 it might clear. But you definitely need to check it. You need .050" clearance. I use a .050 wire to check it with. You can order a cam from any manufacturer with what ever base circle you want, for no extra charge. If you go smaller than a .950 basecircle, you will more than likely need special tall body lifters from Crane or whoever else you can find that sells them. They are expensive. Or tiebar lifters. What happens with really small basecircle cams is the lifter doesn't stick out of the block enough for the directional plates to properly grab the lifter. There is barely a stub sticking up. Crane makes a special lifter with a taller body that sticks up higher. But the plunger is in the same place, so you don't need longer pushrods.

My stroker 396 SB needed a small base circle cam. 3.875 stroke six inch rods .627/.611 lift 234/242 112 LSA.. Comp cams said clearancing would not be sufficient. No additional charge. $1300 with lifters/link bar beehive springs/keepers retainers etc.

Jim knows all. He has built some mean motors for forum members and is working on one now for a good friend of mine.
