96 Corvette Oil Pan Removal In Car
Is it possible to remove the oil pan with the engine in the car without having to lift it up? It looks like the exhaust and starter need to be removed for sure. It just seems like the clearance by the front of the oil pan is pretty tight.

Yes. I have done it. It is not a fun process with it in car.(It is fun if you have motor upside down on an engine stand)Cant remember what all i removed but seems like i took off headers and starter. Still stunk. Mine was a 93.I was real worried id dislocate a gasket somewhere and end up with a leaking pan.I had no issues with leaks afterwards.I also put on the canton road race pan (which is even more PITA than stock pan bc its bigger)

I did a few years ago. The clearance in front is tight. I had to hand rotate the crank to get it to the point where the front of the pan could come down and back to get it off.

yes you can.
loosen the two nuts (one per side) on the motor mount bolts where they pass through the frame cross member;
put a board under the oil pan and using a floor jack, lift the engine about 1&1/2 inches...if the oil sender on the top rear of the block contacts the firewall, well, you went too far
place a small piece of 3/4 or 1 inch wood spacer between the space that has now opened up between the bottom of the motor mount and the top side of the crossmember
lower the engine and motor mount onto the wooden spacer.
remove jack.
remove pan; there will be ample clearance without having to rotate the crankshaft
that's all there is to it; starter, exhaust, all stay in place

Agree with above posts. Just be SURE your new oil pan gaskets are installed to precision. The worst part of pulling the oil pan, is pulling it the second time because you didn't get you gasket installed correctly...ask me how I know!
