Default Pretty sure my rear hub/bearing assembly is bad

I'm like 75% sure, scared the heck out of me I was beating on the T55 bolt on the backside when the front half fell out. I guess it's a good thing I was planning on replacing it!

Bad bearing/hub assembly
wow that bearing was being held together by the spindle nut must have sounded terrible, i recommend replacing both sides and half shaft universal joints.

In addition to changing the u-joints, pulling the half shafts makes it easier to get to the torx bolts to remove the hub assembly.

There was a cotter pin in there too!

I've already done the u-joints I actually did those first thinking it was the issue (they were also roached).

What surprised me was grabbing the wheel and rocking it there was no play up and down, just driving it there was obviously something not right.

Check your rear brake pads and disks, too. They may have worn some strange angles if the wheels were rocking under load.

With new half shaft ujoints and hub bearings it will be real quiet back there.

Yeah I'm going to check those out before they go back on. I'm moving to C5 brakes and was going to redo the rears at the same time, this just confirms that I'll be redoing the rears at the same time instead of thinking about it..

Do everything while you're in there, including all the rubber. Change to polyurethane so you'll never have to go in there again.

Mine was worn out in every joint, some to just touching metal.
I guess I found my 1-2 shift clunk in a big way.

When I did mine, the toe rod ends that mount by the diff were shot. If you really want to tighten things up and improve your handling, check out the Banski kit. I did mine a year ago with the full kit and very pleased with the results so far. Drives like a totally different car.

So the plan is to go to a rod end setup, however that's going to have to wait because I need to get this car together and out of my shop so I can pull my Z06 in and see if I can figure out why I was flagged off the course and if I can fix it before the spring. I figure I'll probably be back to work on the '85 come April or May.
