1.6 Ratio Comp cam Ultra Pro MAG Full Roller
Hey Guys, so I have NSA non self aligning Ultra Pro Magnum Full Roller 1.6 Ratio Rockers with 7/16th Studs running with Hardened Pushrods and Trickflow Guideplates. During idle, I hear a clicking noise, and I have done my adjustment 2 times....I made sure I was at 0 lash, then went 1/2 turn past. My question is how can I tell if this is normal VS a bad lifter. The motor has only 10k miles since rebuild, so 10k on lifters and Cam aswell.... and I'm running the Hotcam. So is the clicking I hear at idle normal? I mainly hear it when there is another car next to me at a Stop light

They tend to be pretty noisy, especially if you're running what sounds like a stock exhaust.
I'd carefully examine all the valve springs to make sure none are broke and all the locks are seated.
Lastly, did you change the valve springs correct? Stock springs will coil bind.

IDK it seems loud. Did you change valve covers or remove oil drippers from stock ones? Did you check roller wear pattern on valve stem? You could contact comp cams to be sure rockers will work with center bolt valve covers.

You need to get a mechanic's stethoscope or a cardboard tube from a roll of Christmas paper and isolate the sound. The cardboard tube won't jamb through your head if you bump something and is long enough to put on the valve covers.
If you use one of these options, you should be able to isolate where it is coming from, not just guessing. Then you can diagnose what is causing it.

with a Pushrod Length Checking Tool. Not my first build. But Thank you. And Yes, I have adjusted valves with engine warm and running. I do believe it is the flange after the headers to the cats. I read on here that 96 has a donut gasket that is needed. I think it is an exhaust leak, will dig into it more this week

I agree. It sounds kinda loud to me, especially considering the hood is closed. I'm guessing its even louder with the hood up. I have CC 1.6 Pro Magnums on my 383. I probably have 15k+ miles on them, between this engine and my old engine and mine sound nothing like that.

Checked that too....the noise is only heard when I am right next to another car and it bounces off the car....in the video I posted I am parked right next to my Avalanche. When there is no cars around me you barely hear it. Not sure if I mentioned I'm running Guideplates with Hardened Pushrods

been running this setup for over a year, it does work with center bolt covers for a 96 only. Did my HW. As I stated, this noise is like this when I'm next to another car idling. And honestly, every single Ultra Pro Magnum I have searched for makes the same Damn noise with Guideplates, motor is strong, healthy, and I'm not tripping. Just wanted to see what others who have this setup like mine are thinking. 7/16 studs, Guideplates, ultra Pro Magnum 1.6rr

Found issue and solved it
One last adjustment was made and I believe it helped a lot. How does it sound now? Compare to the previous video....please let me know if this sounds right with comp cam Ultra pro magnum roller rockers 1.6 ratio and ls7 lifters

Sounds fine (good) now. What did you do differently in your adjustment?

I wish someone with the same setup can post a video for me to put me at ease.

I need to setup a new hosting website (after clearing everything off Photophukit).
I have the exact same setup (1.6 Comp Pro Mags with LS7 lifters). Mine sounds closer to your first video...with the hood open anyway. I can tell #5 &/or #7 is noisier than the rest. It's been that way for 7 yrs (25k miles). I was curious what you did for my own edification.
I remember getting conflicting opinions on preload (even back then). Was it that LS7 lifters only need 1/2 turn vs 3/4 on a stock engine or the other way around? Anyway, I was assured preload wouldn't matter because it was PRELOADED...meaning they'd "click" the same as long as there was no "slack". Your vid proves otherwise.
I've never pulled the covers and rechecked in 7 yrs but I ought to. Plus, I need to reseal/repair one valve cover anyway. I keep thinking I should do it during winter so I won't miss it during downtime (welding for nice cast covers). Plus, I want to pull injectors and maybe swap intakes. Then, when it's cold I think "Gee, I should wait until it's warm in the garage! LOL Maybe my new years resolution should be something about procrastinating less!
