Default 1985 vette Some spark plugs very hot, some cold

I noticed the spark plug wires get extremely hot, only a 2 or 3 and they are too hot to even touch. While others are either warm or stone cold. Plugs were just changed but wires were not.
Any thoughts?

My thought is don't worry about it unless its running poorly.

On a basic electrical engineering basis if the wire is hot it has some high level of resistance that is converting electrical energy to heat. Maybe the conductor is breaking down and increasing the resistance. You could measure the hot ones and 100% they will have a higher resistance. Like Pattern said if your plug is still firing you are fine. When it breaks down enough the plug won't fire you can replace the wires. Or you can replace the wires now.

The car is running rough. I posted another thread about it. Rough idle on start up. Only when check engine light comes on. If I turn it off and on it goes away. When it' rough it sits below 400rpm. If I give it gas it sounds like a motorboat chugging away and spuddering. With smoke coming out the pipes. But like I said. It goes away if I keep shutting it off and on until it goes away.

Change your wires and plugs while you're at it. Cap and rotor to round things out. When a car is running rough, start out with a basic tune up.

Next time is malfunctioning, do something to force it to run in open loop, like disconnect the MAF and see what happens.

Good call, Definitely going to change it all. Something I usually do but brought it to a mech this time, they said all was fine and didn't need to be changed, considering how those wires get I find it odd.

I'll give that a try, thanks
