A bit ago, my AC bracket broke and the belt shredded. No biggie. Now it has happened again. Where do I go look for the issue? It seems to take one edge off the belt but at the time I installed the bracket, everything SEEMED normal. Any clues?

What part number are you using for the bracket? The casting number if you have it.

Hi. i broke my first bracket, do you have the correct support brackets.?
See pic of the lower bracket's. you should have 2 at the front and the one at the rear of the compressor to the header studs.

I have not had a problem since, also really check the a/c and tensioner pulleys are aligned well, i have had my belt get chopped by the power steering pump pulley which was not pressed home all the way. so check all are in line and no wobble from any pulleys.

My bad guys. This is for a 91.

I got the replacement from a salvage yard that had the right one. It was difficult to find since the part was obsolete. I am looking at 2 of them HERE and THERE

I know the replacement was for the right part because it looked the same as the one coming off and the part numbers seemed to match what the GM dealer said.

GERADVG. I know I have one that goes to the water pump and one that goes to the header stud. Not sure about the one that goes to the fuel pump block off. Where to get that one?

There's 3 braces and I'm trying something new here so bear with me!

#5 is GM 10105224 (RED)

#6 is GM 10105223 (YELLOW)

#9 is GM 10055753 (IN GERADVG's snapshot white arrow)

GM 10105236 is the most recent and latest number for the bracket and that bracket would have that number cast on it. I would think I would want the most recent. If it has the other number cast on it it isn't the most recent.

When i put the later compressor and bracket on my 85 it did not come with bracket no. 5 or 6 and the a/c bracket did not last long.
My second a/c bracket i asked for all the attachments.

Also check the water pump ! some aftermarket ones do not have the correct heights for the bolt's, i found my new bracket would touch the heater return pipe before the bolts. I could have broken another bracket if i was not careful. So double check the alignment of the places the bracket bolts to and do them up finger tight and check for any movement or space between bracket and mounting surfaces.
Then use a ruler or string to check the pulleys are aligned correctly, especially the tensioner i find some can have a lot of play in the tensioner assembly and tilt a little.

So I need #6? I have #5 and #9. Any clues on where to get #6 since it is probably obsolete from GM? TIA.

What strikes me strange is that the way I have it set up worked for a while before it broke. The new bracket broke within a thousand miles. I am wondering if there is something else that could cause it.

What part # is cast on the bracket that most recently broke and what is it on the bracket you're presently using.

A post in the "wanted/for sale" might get it done.

The last one has the part number of 10105236. Not sure about the first one since it was original and I didn't check.

Any ideas what to check for so it doesn't happen again?

I'm looking at the 91 bracket and it has a hole for the hose to go thru like your photo BUT it does not have a hole for that 3rd brace. Could it have changed since this is not an 85 but a 91

Looking at that piece, there is no way to hook that 3rd brace on.

I believe that is probably the earlier part number before the braces. Have you got your brace from the west coast yet?

I have gotten the bracket at this time. I am looking at it and can find no way you can attach the brace to it.

Do you see where it attaches in the last snapshot I posted? Those are 10105236 brackets. You can blow them up and zoom to the casting number on them. I see the difference I believe!

Seems to me like there are 2 brackets. One with the boss for the lower bracket and one without. Anyone know why there are 2 different ones? Is there a difference? What is the difference?

Does Anyone talk about the freesbe here?if i'm not wrong the reason why they did it was to solve this issue:broken brackets whit larger ac compressor since 86.the freesbe acts as a dampener the same way as harmonic balancer does.continuing to clear engine bay does that...you put new headers and all brackets for alternator and Ac went off...you change water pump and...ops the freesbe went off...

I just had my a/c off to replace the water pump which decided to leak.
I have the same bracket as in the photos above with the hole for the lower bracket that you can just see. I did make a bracket on the weekend, cut out of some 1/4 inch steel with my oxy & acetylene to a boomerang shape to clear the lower radiator hose, and half inch spacer to mount to a/c bracket . I should have taken pics and dimensions i know

The top water pump bolt to lower front compressor support came with my 88-91 bracket and i made a brace to support the top rear
a/c to exhaust header as the seller could not find it ... that was a few years ago.

Also had a broken compressor bracket couple of years ago... Fortunately, I always have a spare belt within the car...



Because the bracket was really 'gone'







I think that was caused by the broken threads in one of the compressor bracket's attachements at the end of the cylinder head. Here are some pictures of the repair http://finnshark.com/forum/showpost....postcount=2125
