Have a 1986 Corvette with iron heads.

110km, all stock except aftermarket exhaust.
looking to do some maintenance.
(Suggestions where to buy, parts numbers?)

Would like to change out valve stem seals.

-Felpro? Intake and exhaust seals with umbrella's or should I use all intake seals on everything?
(read on old thread)

Valve springs oem? Best place to get/part numbers?


Rockers arms , which ones? Combo 1.5/1.6 rollers,
1.6 rollers or summit racing steel rocker arms sum-g6801? ( part numbers, where to get?)

Looking to change out to newer parts without changing valve covers or pushrods.

Any help would be great.

Myself i would not spend money on 85-86 iron tpi heads. Either GMPP VORTECs or later model aluminum.

I used Fel-Pro valve stem seals on my Aluminum head 86' 4 years ago, and they are still doing the job today. I used both the intake and exhaust seals in the kit. The car gets about 4K miles a year on it, so not a ton of miles on them.

Did you do anything else while you were under the valve covers?
Like changing the rocker arms or springs?

Switching to Vortec heads means buying a new intake manifold as well. Probably be hard to find and pricey.

did a valve job on my iron head 85 a couple years ago and replaced the valve springs with these --

elgin industries - tier 1 supplier to GM, USA made, 37 bucks shipped -- how can you go wrong?

10K miles later - no issues or complaints. for stem seals, fel-pro intake and umbrella exhaust -- retained my stock rocker arms. again, no issues. my 85 is a daily driver and had 150K plus on the block - I didn't want to invest big money in heads at this point in time.

For my 1985 I did FelPro seals for the valves, new stock springs, new chrome moly push rods and PRW Pro Series 1.5/1.6 stainless full roller rockers pn#0235014. That with new FIC injectors and rebuilding the fuel pressure regulator did awaken this engine a little bit.
