Blower or crate engine?
I’m trying to decide between a blower or a crate engine for my modified l98. It looks like the costs are similar. The engine has aftermarket heads, cam and intake but a stock bottom end.
Any advice would be appreciated

How about pulling the engine, have the short block rebuilt with forged blower pistons and then do a blower. You'll get the most power out of it and a dependable set up. These short blocks are very reasonable to rebuild as far as expenses.

I would have the bottom end built to handle a blower first.

I would go with 4 bolt main splayed bolts and forged everything, but the pistons are the most important, and of course built with a specific CR in mind.

To duplicate the power a blower would give you, your drivability would be reduced. You would need a loppy cam, high compression, etc. You'd get under 10 mpg. With a blower (supercharger actually) you could still be in the mid teens. Of course it depends on your set up.
