Default 1988 z52, Dana 36 suggestions

Can I get someone to shove a 3.07 in my Dana 36? I have the 2.59s I believe and I'm obsessed with fast 0-60s, what's the best thing to do in this situation? Would even higher gears be helpful?

With a stock l98 you don't want alot of gear. You could look for a 3.07 assembly and have it swapped in. The 2.59 case does not allow for gear swapping. You will need a 3.07 case to change gears.

I had 3.54 but that was on the suggestion of the tuner who had a hand in the intake, headers, torque converter stall. IOW, he "designed" how he wanted it to all work out. I had 4.10 before and it sucked gas but not that much more for daily driving.

2.59 is a 2-series case, you will need a 3-series case to get 3.07/3.54/3.73 etc.

I would not go lower than 3.07 in an L98 car. You would get a little quicker to 60 but would die after that. If you plan to change to a Miniram, then the lower gears come into the discussion.

1988 came with a rather wimpy 1600rpm TC, changing that to a 2000-2400 rpm would be better than going with a really low gear set.

Richmond and Yukon now make gear sets for the 2 different cases, the series 2 and the series 3. The oem 3.07's are series 3. The 2.59's are a series 2 case. Series 2 gear sets are referred to as "thick".

It appears only Yukon is now offering the "thick" gears. The 3.07's are pretty snappy. That is what I have. It would be less expensive to source and find a good 3.07 Dana 36 than buy the gears and have them set up.

For example:

If you want to pm me, I have a Dana 36 case with 3.07 posi. 49K, on it. I went with a Dana 44. You might want to check if you can use your c-beam and driveshaft. I have those, too.

I haven't heard much of people going from a 44 to 36 but 36 to a 44 might require different holes in the C-beam and driveshaft so it stands to reason, the other way is similar.

So, OP, if you have a D44, sell it and buy his setup so you don't have to. OTOH, if you only have a D36, buy his D36 and be done with it.
