I could be wrong but I think that motor has dual water pumps, do you think they might have actually thought about it and said water pump over opti, no, that's not good.

No. What they were thinking was that they needed two water pumps to get the flow and cooling that was required for that inefficient, heat generator.

That engine has something like 25" of exhaust passage that is w/in the block and as a consiqunce, within the cooling system. So the cooling system has to absorb all the head generated by a V8 engine, PLUS I'd guess 50% of the heat the is typically lost out the exhaust. You can touch the exhaust manifolds on a flat head Ford when it's idling, b/c so much exhaust heat has already been absorbed by the cooling system.
