Default 4+3 OD Fluid Change: Gasket or RTV?

What's the current thinking regarding fluid changes on the 4+3 OD? I see that parts suppliers are selling kits with filters and gaskets but the factory manual and a number of older forum posts say to use RTV. Are the gaskets an improvement with regards to preventing leaks? Thanks!

I use RTV. No leaks as long as you let it set up before filling. Gasket if you're impatient and have a nice flat rail.

it is common for the pans mounting surface to be bent up from over torquing bolts. It gets misshapen.

if you have that, as much as i cannot stand rtv, it is what i would use, and as jv9 says, follow the directions for partially allowning to cure before torquing to spec, which, remember, will liklely be measured in INCH pounds not ft lbs.

Thanks, y'all! I guess we'll see how it looks when the pan comes off.
