Fuel filter and sender unit isn´t affected by engine heat.
Is the ignition system in good condition?
It might be a worn out ignition coil. How old is it?
And the ignition module inside the distributor?
12k miles? Haven´t you used it?
My -90 is in the 120k range.

Get an ice pack ready. When the car gets warm and dies ice the ECM down to cool it while the engine is still hot. If it starts after icing it could need an ECM rebuild. That's what my 93 was. Mine wouldn't ever die it just wouldn't restart while it was hot. Also sometimes when it was cold it wouldn't start and tapping on the ECM top would make it start. The solder joints shrink over the years. I had mine rebuilt last year for 160ish dollars and it hasn't died or not started since. Worth a try testing it.

How about you stop changing things and start diagnosing. When it happens, it is spark or fuel related. Can you restart it? If not, it is a perfect situation. You can check spark and fuel pressure and injector pulse.

Read the next thread, look at rockauto, but better yet look at the engine wiring diagram or forget it.

I dont have the FSM, but if you google ,there is a diagram showing it at the flywheel end, I have a nissan frontier with the same setup, optispark n cranksensor, the senor on it times the fuel.

There´s no crank sensor in any of the C4:s (maybe exept for the ZR-1 engine, which I know very little about).
Edit: At least there´s no crank sensor on the L98 and I doubt that there´s one on the LT1 engine. //Edit.
The ignition and fuel injection has all the triggers it needs in the distributor.
And then there´s some senders such as throttle position, intake and coolant temp, MAP or MAF etc.

Optispark is on the LT1 which is 92 to 96. Optispark is mounted on the front of the motor not the flywheel at the rear.
