Intake manifold gasket............
Typically, how many hours should a Chevrolet dealer charge to replace an intake manifold gasket set on an '86 L98? They do have Corvette repair experience. Thanks.

Its really not that difficult to do. I changed mine this past year and had never open up an engine in my entire life. The boys here ont he forum will walk you through every step. Just be sure to pick up a digital camera.
It would make a nice winter project for ya.

I'd say you can expect a dealer to charge you anywhere from 4 to 6 hours labor for a job like that. But that's assuming that they don't 'find' anything else that needs replacing while they're in there.
In all honesty, if you have the time, you can save alot of money and just do the job yourself. The task looks tough, but it's really not that difficult - the hardest part is marking the distributor's rotor so that you can put it back in the same place during reassembly.
Good luck with the car.

This is the first "project" that I did after I bought my Corvette. The estimate the my dealer gave me was a little over $600.00.
With the help from other members here on the Forum and no experience working on motors, I was able to do it for about $80.00 in parts and fluids.
I took my time and two weekends but, save $600.00.

Thanks everyone for your comments. It's already in the shop or I might try it myself. I just wanted to know about how long it would take so that when I get the bill I would know it was realistic. The dealer is honest so I'm not concerned from that aspect, but it's nice to know.

Lindsay Chevrolet in woodbridge VA charges $650 to do this job on a 91 L98. :yesnod:
I let them do it because the car was under warranty. Six months later it was leaking anti-freeze really bad from the intake. As you can see they did a poopiety job. I fix it myself at that point since the warranty ran out by then.
