Is there a gasket? Exhaust Manifold?
I have a leak in my exhaust manifold, but as I understand it, after 1980, there were no gaskets, just metal to metal. Is this true? I see gaskets advertised in MAD, so I am sure I need to put one in to fix the leak. Will it just blow out?

Some had gaskets, some did not. Some of the time guys will not put them back on if they hace had leak problems, but I'd recomend using them anyway. I've even seen people use high temp(red) permatex and have it work. Gaskets to me seem the best to use.

Got em on the 84 and the 91 ZR-1, if you use hi-temp silicone make sure it's the unscented type or you could freak out the 02 sensor or sensors which ever the case maybe. 84 CF 91 ZR-1

It's funny you ask. When I thought I had a header leak, I called the dealer to ask about the price of a new set of exhaust gaskets, and they told me the car didn't originally come with any (metal-to-metal). Yet, when I pulled the heads off this past summer to replace the head gaskets, I found exhaust gaskets.
Either way, it's a good idea to use them and if the dealer won't sell you any then get an aftermarket set.

I have had horrible luck with exhaust leaks over the past few years.... such horrible luck, that its at the point where I have not heard the true sound of my car in years.
I had a manifold start to leak, so I got it replaced with another manifold by the dealer ($400! ). Then that manifold started to leak too.
By the time the second manifold started to leak, I started looking around in there and realized that there was no gasket, and that the exhaust manifold was actually getting eaten away.
Now I have headers and have eaten up two gaskets. Turns out my head is stripped, so no matter what bolt you have in there, it turns itself loose and then the exhaust eats away at either the header gasket or metal manifold.

Well, it sounds like I am going to need a new set of gaskets and go that route. I hope it does solve the problem, because I am sick of hearing that flutteriing sound until the engine warms up.
