We have a battery switch the 1989 as the car sits a lot, every time the battery is reconnected the headlights rattle like the motors run but do not open. the motors were rebuilt a few year ago, but i think the regular cycles of connect/disconnect is ruining those plastic bushings that wear out. I don't have my FSM handy so,
the question is, since i do not drive the car at night is 'What wire on the headlight Module can i put a switch on to stop the power going out to the motors when the battery is reconnected each time.? the Red?
The two red wires are the power to OPEN them. One red for each motor. But the white wire is the power to CLOSE them. The white wire is hot when the headlight switch is OFF So you need to interrupt 3 wires. Seems like a lot of cutting.
Why don't you disconnect both connectors on the module, and give that a try for awhile instead of cutting anything.
I'm not sure why it's "rattling" the doors upon power-up. Probably the pellets are getting loose again. I have a ton of experience with NCRS C4's. All NCRS C4s have battery cutoff switches, and we use them constantly at the events. The headlights don't rattle when the batteries are turned on.
Yes, the pellets are probably getting bad. Thanks for info.
Evidently, the module applies power to the doors upon battery power ON. If they are closed, and tight, the module senses they are closed and removes the power to close. If the pellets are loose, the doors will not be tight upon power-up. The module will sense this and apply power to close them. Hence the rattle.
Thanks for the help, i put a switch on the White wire and problem solved no more power to close the already closed HLs so no clunking when i reconnect the battery.
I will later replace pellets and then use switch to keep them from being pushed on each time i reconnect battery. If i need headlights, which is almost never, i can toggle the switch.
I have bright LED switchback turn signal bulbs on diodes that i use as DRLs and then the inner driving lights have brighter halogens on a switch to operate independent of the rest of lights. Those work great like yesterday going early to L.A.'s Super Car Sunday' for Corvette Day. Car culture is one of the few good things about the doomed state of CA...
Hey, I was there too. I took my 2-tone blue 85. My friend from Bakersfield drove his 71 Convertible down. Always an interesting collection of cars and people at SoCal car events.
Glad you came up with a workable solution for you headlight doors.
Cheers
Cool, i think i saw the 2 tone blue, very nice. I drove the bright blue 1989, has a wing on the back,
