Make sure you have sufficient air flow through your radiator at speed.

I am fairly sure you have a plug cat. Your symptoms were the same as mine. Here is my thread as I was figuring my note. Good luck to you.

When I press on the gas, the temperature goes up. When I let it coast, or idle, it goes down.

Sounds like a coolant flow problem. Not enough coolant through the engine at speed. I'm assuming the correct amount of coolant is in the system, and the hoses are not blocked.

A plugged cat would cause a very noticeable loss of performance at heavy throttle. Do you have this issue? If not I would not suspect the cat.

Default Solution!!!!

my trans tunnel would get so hot and my oil temps would go sky high.

is it your oil going high? coolant? both?
Hey Everyone!
This is solved. I removed the O2 sensor from before the cat and drove it. I was able to get the car up to 80mph with no issues and was on the road for 20 mins. Temp stayed low and car ran fine, albeit loud I'm going to swap out the cat or something like that.

Here is my take-away: The cat is able to be partially blocked causing a gradual heat build up in the engine. And since the exhaust runs next to the oil cooler, when the exhaust overheats, then the oil temp will go up as well. I had plenty of power, although because of the heat issue, I couldn't get up over 60mph without the temp rising to 258 or above.

I appreciate all of the help on this problem that has plagued me for a year!!
