I have very similar 383. 268xfi, afr 1040s, 700r4 and 3.07 but with a miniram. I bought a relatively cheap 2400 unit from FTI and i think it works well in town and highway. I donno if you've planned this far but I used the hooker 1-3/4" tubes and dropped in a stealth in-tank replacement pump. 30lb injectors worked in mine.
FWIW i made 483 crank hp and 460 tq. Torque was never less than 400 between 2700-6200.

I don't know if you have installed it yet, but the throttle pressure cable to the trans. MUST be installed prior to assembling the plenum onto the runners. I have a very similar engine, 5.7" rods, a bit more cam, and I love it. Plan on working on the tune. Nice work!

VERY nice build. I'm in the process of putting my 383 together. They recommended an 8" diameter dampener but I heard someone say they had problems with it hitting the crossmember and had to go smaller. Can you tell me what size, brand balancer (or if Jim can chime in) you are using, and I'm assuming it will clear...
Thank you!!
-Brian

You don't want to use a 8" damper. You will have problems hitting the cross member. This is a 6.5" damper external balance. The machine shop actually supplied it. I think it a Pioneer brand damper

Sent my Edelbrock intake to Jim this week. He is going to gasket match it and install it next. I am having an adjustable throttle/TV cable bracket fabricated for the Superram. Friend of mine is a machinist/fabricator/welder. The bracket will allow me to adjust the angle of both cable sets. We'll see how it works out.

Tonight a couple college age neighbor guys came over to look at my Vette. They are always working on their Honda's and have seen me in the Vette. Seems they really enjoyed my "old" car. They invited me to a early morning coffee, drive in car meet.

We simply notched the crossmember for the 8" while engine out. greg

Latest picture of the 383 Jim Barth is putting together for me. It's almost there. I'm putting in helicoils into the bottom threads of the Superram plenum and threading two holes on each runner. Made headway on the Superram's Helicoils last night. Can't wait. Jim ported the intake to match to AFR head ports and will give the Superram similar treatment. Can't wait. Even my wife is talking about seeing the new engine in the vette.

I'll finish with the Helicoils this weekend and ship the Superram to Jim on Tuesday. A friend of mine fabricated a two piece throttle/TV cable bracket. The TV cable portion is fabricated to be an adjustable angle. The throttle cable part of the bracket is fixed. He took a TPI bracket to measure the holes for the cables. I supplied him with a drawing sent to me showing the angles of the Superram bracket relative to the plenum chamber. I gave him my plenum chamber to fit the bracket to. Sure hope it works. It'll be a good experiment.

Should I use a higher volume/pressure fuel pump for my 383? Suggestions as to a good pump?

Thanks, Went

For my 396 that Jim built, I went with a Walbro 255 from Racetronix. RX now likes to send you their own pump in the kits, but you can still specify the Walbro unit.

Note though that you really do need to use the upgraded wiring harness with the 255 pump, and you do need to go ahead and upgrade the in-tank wiring once you do that too, because the upgraded harness sucks so much power that it actually melts the in-tank connectors.

Jim built me a nice 396 for my avatar car but I'm not happy. It forced me to buy a fresh set of drag radials so I could start using the throttle in 1st and 2nd gears again!

Here is a photo Jim sent me this evening. Now I just need to arrange to get over to Jim's place and pick up my new engine!

The thing looks badass. Your car should be a mean machine. 383s were made to have a SuperRam on it.
