Default C4 Tail light conversing to LEDs RED or WHITE LED?

1985 car.

Changing to LEDs for tail lights. Is it better to use red or white LEDs?

white will work as stock incandescent is white but is red better?

I'd stick with White for safety reasons- red will be too muted.

Form what I have read and understand it is better to go with the color of the lens the LEDs will be behind. I have Red LED replacement bulbs on my OEM style tail lights..
