Research ICM (IGNITION CONTROL MODULE)...when failing, it has a habit of not allowing starting when engine is hot.
If that is your problem, simple fix. Access is easy. Part comes with a cream that needs to be applied to the
backing plate.

Another potential problem is leaking fuel injectors, which may flood the engine. Can you start your hot engine by holding the throttle pedal down while you are trying to start it?
After you have driven your '84 enough to get it hot, take off the air filter housing and inspect the fuel injectors. If they are dribbling, that's a problem.

Pretty neat info about the icm module.
i have been dealing with a hot restart issue that just started this year.
my 84 is a bit modified with an ebl flash ecm and 80lb fuel injectors.
My wideband O2 shows a very rich condition when it finally does start, so i have been reducing fueling in the temperature range of the issue (220f or higher).
i also have a DUI ignition module (installed with artic silver branded ceramic white paste), and recently added their coil when i had the car apart early spring of this year...
i read that it's possible to install the ICM outside of the distributor?
does anyone have experience/guidance on what is needed like plugs, etc?
i also have a small collection of old heatsinks that i scavenged from old computers and video cards that i could use as part of a new mount/housing...

It needs to be established first, before giving advice (guesses) if the starter cranks the engine? Or not? If the starter doesn't turn the crank shaft (when hot) then the ICM isn't likely the problem.
