Default Wheel fitment question for the drag racers

Hoping to get some help. I am looking to get a set of drag radials for my car for next season. I currently have C5 17/18 wheels on the car which I like for the street. I do not want to get 18" drag radials for 2 reasons, 1 18" drag radials are priced much higher than 15,16,17's so I am looking to get a set of wheels for just the DR's to bolt on for track days. car is only 318whp and hooks decent in good track condition on my street tires, but for consistency I want dr's. will probably be bracket racing car next season. so Looking for help so I know what my options are. I like these but pretty sure back spacing will not work? https://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS/555/69124/10002/-1
I could get a Pair of stock 17x 9.5 wheels and go with 2) 255/17's
I could find 15" wheels and go with 255/60-15's
my question is what back spacing will I need to fit my car if I go with 15" or 16" wheels?

thanks for any input. I like the Jegs wheels cause I can get matching skinnies for the fronts.
car is a 93 with stalled auto

Your car looks like the later suspension.... 88-96. It needs a 10" wheel with 7.5" BS. There are lots of wheel choices because its the same fittament as 4th gen F Bodys. Racestar, Weld and Billet Specalties all offer them.

A 15" wheel is going to require grinding on the caliper to fit. The inner barrel of the wheel is most always too small. If you are willing to do all this work, you want a 275 50r15 tire.

The stock 17x9.5 wheels should have a 275 40r17 tire.

For your power the Nitto 555r drag radial is a good tire as is the MT.

Thank you lots. that is the exact info I was looking for. my car is a 93. I was thinking these. or maybe the 555
so a 15x10 with the 7.50bs and caliper mod/grind will fit?

If you go with Nittos I would strongly consider the NT05R as opposed to the 555R. My car is similar to your car, power wise, and when I had the 555Rs, they were very inconsistent. You'd be much better off with the NT05R or the MT Street SS for consistency.

The NT05R doesn't come smaller than 17" wheel. tire price still good but that does really jacks up wheel price. unless I just go with a set of old sawblades.

The NT01 is the road race tire, the NT05R is a drag tire. I'm in Lansdale, which is about 45 minutes from the bridge.

In my opinion, the decision to go with 15s or 17s comes down to how seriously you're into drag racing. If you're planning on really getting into it, with future mods and dedication to racing in a few classes, I'd probably go with 15s and a dedicated drag pack (skinnies up front). If you're more of a casual racer, I'd go with 17s. You can pick up a spare pair of sawblades for next to nothing. Mount a decent set of DRs on them and swap them on before you go to the track. I did this for years and it met my needs perfectly.

Thanks that's actually very good advice. Maybe this coming season illI do the 17's and dabboedab bracket racing .Not really doing performance mods this winter .last year did cam swap. I let my daughter do most of the driving. So I want her to get used to the current power level. She really only has 4 passes since cam install and one was a smin out from getting out of the groove. Might add line lock for ease of burnout .Thanks again for your advice.

Just to clarify, the wheel diameter won't change the optimal offsets. On the rear of a later C4 (88-96) you can have as much 8" backspacing, but for a 10" wheel I'd advise rklessdriver's backspacing of 7.5" max.

Does anyone have experience in 15x10 Race Star wheels with 7.25" BS on 88-96 suspension? How do they fit with 12" rear rotors and calipers and do you have to use a spacer with them?

Fresh 275/40-17 Mickey Thompsons on some saw blades may have that D36 thinking about an exit strategy.

Its a crap shoot at your power level. Your D36 may last 100 passes or it may last 1 pass. I destroyed my first D36 at way less than 318 RWHP (prob 275 or so) with a similar converter. I think more important than RWHP is 60' times. When I was pulling 1.8X and above 60' times, my D36 was fine. When I, started pulling low to mid 1.7X 60" times, I blew up my D36. I then converted to a D44.

based on how this has progressed. I think I want to now go with a 15x8 wheel with a 255\60-15 DR, I know its plenty of tire as I had that combo on my
4th gen Camaro with much more hp and 3800 converter and it dead hooked and maybe 255 over 275 will serve my D36 better. so if 15x10 wheels require 7.5 bs if I go 15x8 will 5.5bs fit correctly? I appreciate the help you guys are giving.
