Safety Car
The 4 pt I had built for my 92.
I had a similar 6pt bar in my 84 but 4yrs ago I cut it out and had a chromoly 8.50 cert cage built. The car just got too fast for a 6pt..... Now it's too fast in the 1/4 for the 8.50 cert and I'm going to have to upgrade to 25.3 or 25.5 Cert some day. Here is the thread with pics of the 8.50 cage in my 84.

If you do this, dont do removable swingout sidebars.
they arent as stiff a structure (as welded) and could detach, in a side impact, impaling you.
i did permanent sidebars. Getting in and out over them is part of the experience.I Street drive it like this all the time

Those removable side bars sure looks more convenient.
Are the removable side bar types still legal for the same race categories as the permanent welded side bars?
Is there a downside, other than the risk of getting impaled by one?
Or is there a recommend stronger brands or methods for removable side bars.

If you look closer at the picture of RichS side bars, you will see they are very sturdy. IF he was T-boned and the impact was so severe to break the bar loose,..... well, lets just say "impaled" would be the least of his worries!!
And FWIW roll bars are for track safety, with a helmet and 4 or 5 point belts. In reality, they are dangerous on the street.....

also put padding / leather wrapping (bought a bunch of coats from goodwill and used that to make the wrap)
id rather have my rollbars in a vert in a rollover situation (whether street or track).
my issue with the removable swingouts is - everyone creates threads about how loose the c4 chassis is.
Welp heres your chance to fix it. it seems there would be some play in the swingouts (so they can be removed).
just throwing out ideas here. Everyone acted like i had to have swingouts when doing mine but im perfectly happy with non removable diagonal sidebars

No way my azz is getting in and out with out the swingouts! I've never been told anything negative about them thru any track tech. Only thing I was told, was to put padding on the bar near my head encase of a street accident by one inspector. With out the side bars in I can jack up one corner and it lifts 3 sides. The car is extremely rigid with no flex. The bars around the hoop triangulated do a great job. I only put the bars in at the track, although I almost got t-boned one race by a inexperienced kid in a stick car that didn't know when to lift. He hit the wall in my lane!

Thanks Rich and CF, I'm going to put swing out bars in mine, because I want to drive the car, to work maybe two days a week in good weather. I really didn't want to put a bar in the car, but the last day of the track, I was told to slow the car down. so a bar it is.

Old thread but new concern. My concern is the way the Seatbelts are secured to Tabs rather than wrapped around. The Tabs look to be welded on the top only I'm not sure how one would get into the bottom side to get a good Weld. Welds of this nature are very strong pulled in one direction but very weak pulled the other way. In this situation if you were to hit the Tabs down with a hammer the Tabs would progressively bend around the Tube with each hit. But if you were to hit the Tab up it would shear the weld with the first hit. And In this situation a collision the seat belts are going to pull up on the Tabs.

1990 ZR-1 with DRM 4-point roll bar with driver side swing out bar. I had the tech director from division 2 check my setup. He said i'am good for 11.49 the way its setup. Best run has been 11.54@ 120.xx mph. Best 60ft was 1.602. Door bar is on a post where the speaker was attached with a 3/8in bolt to allow it to swing open to get into the drivers seat.
I'am using a 4l8OE transmission. The silver level next to the shifter is a manaul launch control ( think manual two step). And I do not track car only drag race when I can fine time. The black tube is to hold up the rear glass hatch, because the rear wing is to heavy
Maybe this will help with what you would like to do with car.
