Thanks for that. Any knowledge as to cost and what's involved to have a dealer program one of these?

That particular one I'd do with either the dealer or maybe a 'LOCAL' ACDelco jobber. It might actually be on a program where they 'do yours' for diagnostics first. If it's repairable they repair it for a set fee. If it's not it's returned to you/dealer w/no charges and then you can go into the aftermarket. Many ECM/CCM/PCM/BCM are under that program. You may need to ask!!! If purchased from dealer/ACD jobber you might be able to negotiate programming!!!

I did a CCM under that program many months ago. If it's still in the current parts supply system then the doing yours isn't relevant. It would just be a core.

I thought I might have saved the list and maybe posted the program from the dealer. I'll look around. The 2 dealers I buy from were very familiar with it.

I posted the tag involved in the program back here I can't put my hands on the list yet. See post #19 as well as the post with the tag info. The OP in that thread looked like he got a pretty outstanding deal from his vendor. You might reach out to that OP and see if he's still happy!!

Curious, why do you think its bad?

Im in the process of repairing mine now. Im on my 2nd PCM because I keep having connection issues with my jet tuner. I have 20 flash chips on the way now just in case I want to offer it up as a service. they were pretty cheap. The bin files for your 94 are easy to come by.

Thanks...called my local GMC dealer who employs a full time Corvette Tech. They charge $185 to R & R and program an owner supplied ECM. Looks like this is the way to go.
So I buy the Auto Zone ECM for $200 less $85 when I return my core to local store (nice convenience). So I'm out $115 net for the ECM plus $185 labor at a GM Dealer..$300 plus tax with a 1 year warranty.

I think that's reasonable.

I have been told by no less than 6 Techs that Code #42 ("Ignition Control Circuit Shorted or Grounded") screams Bad ECM 99% of the time. Not only on Corvettes but across all GM platforms.

Used 94-95 PCMs run $30-50, and a mail order tune can be had for less than $100.

Or if you can find someone close to you with DIY tuning capability, then it's $30-50 for the PCM and $0 for the BIN upload.

Nope. Usually ICM related.

Used meaning what? Junkyard? It probably won't be tested for that money, will it?

Id love to know where you can find PCMs for that money tested or untested.

Is it an optispark problem or a PCM problem?

PCM...and I have run into a dead end finding one. Rockauto has it and it must be programmed. AutoZone and Ecklers have discontinued this product. I found a local shop that will clone, rebuild and reprogram mine after the holidays. I am shopping this hard....and it shouldn't be this hard.

I thought Autozone shows it's in stock?

It seems to be a DVP or Vendor Direct Product so you have to pay for it up front

Did you take the tag and info I posted in the link to a GM dealer? If you just ask a dealer I doubt they could answer the question but with the 'tag image' and part # info I'd think someone there could answer the questions. Like I mentioned I believe that you surrender yours and they send it, if it's not repairable it's returned back to the dealer at 'no charge' > then you could maybe consider the after-market, used etc. Asking is FREE - take a copy of the tag in that other thread and info. A deal to be had $$$? I'd think it would depend on your relationship to the dealer.

If you've found a 'local' that says they can, I'd say legitimate option. "Shouldn't be this hard"? I'd say it's NOT that difficult! The car's 24+ years old and it was a 'first year' introduction onto the GM car-line. I wouldn't expect it 'on the shelf' for 'carry out'.
