Default Oil Temp gauge not working- does that affect the "tune"/ecu operation?

Hi guys,

I noticed last time I was driving that the oil temp gauge, both digital and analog don't appear to be working on my car. I know the engine goes off water temp; does oil temp also factor into how the car runs or operates?

I'm not sure why it would have stopped working. I guess I'll have to get under the car and see if the harness came unplugged. The sensor is supposed to be by where the oil filter is normally located, right? (my car has a remote oil filter and cooler). Anything besides the sensor commonly fail? I had a pigtail disintegrate on one of my other connectors (knock sensor) due to heat cycling.

I don't believe it has any bearing. It does however factor into the OLM if equipped iirc.

Oil Life Monitor and if you check the wiring diagram you'll see it's relationship to the ECM. Drive-ability ---- NO

Has no effect on the engine timing or fueling.

On my '88 the fitting is on the port side of the oil filer base. I could just reach it when leaning over the side of the car.

It had come off so I pushed it back on; still get intermittent "LO" reading now. I think I just need to clean the filthy fitting and maybe flush the connector.

So why is there an DTC code 62 if it doesn't affect fueling or timing? What does it affect that it has that code up to 95?

I'm quite sure If you check an FSM it will mention only 'cooling fans/AC clutch' and of course OLM in the CCM.

Default Oil temp sensor

Good luck finding a replacement. I found one on ebay from a Taiwan supplier. Took about six weeks to deliver.

The sensor is on the block above the oil filter mount.
