NEW CAM and Computer
I'm rebuilding my 84 engine and have a question about the cam and computer that will need to be synchronized to provide the proper amount of fuel in the cross fire fuel injected system. The guy rebuilding the engine asked if there is a cam the is already set up with the computer to minimize any impacts???? Any comments or suggestions are appreciated. thanks

You might contact tuners ,PCM of NC formally pcmforless, one may have something in their files. Rarely are mail order perfect "out of the box", some tweaking is normally required. Installing adjustable FPR maybe helpful.

An OEM replacement stock camshaft is manufactured by Sealed Power. The part number is SEALED POWER CS766. It is a decent cam manufacturer and will work with the ECM in your 84. Rock Auto has them listed on their website.
I did some mods to my new engine for my 84 and used the 327-350HP old Gm 151 camshaft and the stock ECM handled it just fine.

The comp 12-388-4 works just fine with the stock tune of that's what you're going for. I have it in mine and it has a little more grunt than stock but nothing crazy. I didn't know what would work when I did the intake so I chose that. Looking back now, a 212/218 would probably work fine... you can get away with quite a bit with the stock ECM.

Thanks for the info, It will be bored out 30th and the engine rebuild company had just asked about what the best cam would be that would work with the stock computer in the car. Do you have a recommended manufacturer for the cam?

I ran a sbc 400 with a 224/234 cam, heavily ported intake, bored TB's, headers/exhaust and other mods. This was on the stock ECM/Chip/Tune...for a 170hp, 305 CFI...so I had ventured quite a long ways from "stock". The thing ran like stock...except way MORE so, and even got great gas mileage, to boot. The key is to avoid changing the cam so much that you change the SHAPE of the tq curve substantially. If you keep the SHAPE of the tq curve about the same as stock, you can make fueling adjustments with injector sizing and fuel pressure and get quite acceptable results.

I don't think that you'll get 100 hp on a 350 CID w/o a tune OR some drivability issues. I feel that 100 hp is going to require too much cam. I had a friend (you can search him on here; CFI-EFI) who had an '84; he had a heavily ported intake, "free mods", manifold back dual exhaust (w/no cats), everything else on the engine was stock. He was right around 250 chp or so. So if you added a MILD cam, ported heads, you might get another 20 or so? I can't see getting to 310hp w/o using so much cam that it wouldn't be annoying to drive w/o a tune done on it. I was able to do that (~310ish hp) b/c I increased displacement by 95 CID...so the bigger cam in my engine still didn't dramatically alter the shape of the tq curve from the stock cam in the stock 305.
