Larger Oil Filter
I recently installed Long tube headers on my 93 LT1. without cats I have an abundance of new found room under the car. has anyone else switched to the larger oil filter and standard adapter instead of the tiny stupid set up to clear the cat?

What is the delco part number for stock?

I believe the E is actually shorter than the original PF52. I believe I've seen this mentioned but not recently.
***I guess you actually need to measure length - seems there's lots of conflicting information out there.
I DON'T EVER RECALL ANYONE SUGGESTING THE PF52E TO BE THE DESIRED!

The E is the cheaper and is smaller because the 61e on my truck is smaller than a regular 61. (Uses the plastics inner cage instead of metal.) The Bosch or mobil 1 or K&N should be somewhat larger. Donaldson p550051 would work, gives almost an extra 1/4 inch

(my 2-cents FWIW) PF52E is a cheaper version of the PF52 filter. lots of folks on lots of forums blast the cheaper delco filters (designated by the "E" suffix) - google "oil filter pf52 vs pf52e" and read all about it. the PF52 is the better quality of the two. I ran delco PF52 in my 96 LT1, which I bought by the case from my local chevy dealer, but those days are long gone. today I run bosch premium 3510 in my L98. same size and the old school delco PF35, but that's another story and going a bit off-topic. I would suggest anyone with an LT1 to run the delco ultraguard UPF52 or plain old PF52 and stay away from the PF52E filters. 52E's are labeled as "professional" meaning they are made by a third party for gm/delco. there's nothing professional about them - just a cheap filter. God only knows, they could be made by fram -

I thought the 52 and the 52e were different sizes. the problem with the LT1 with the big cats right in the way of the filter gm put an adapter that greatly reduces the size of the filter and off sets it. the old school sized filter does not fit the LT1. My question was to see since I have long tubes and the cats are out of the picture there is no longer a need to have the adapter to reduce and offset filter to clear the cats. so question. has anyone removed the adapter and switched to the larger filter. according to all the filter look up books the PF52E is what the 93 calls for.

what is the advantage of a bigger oil filter though? i would rather have a better quality over larger capacity i think, it isn't going to run dry or anything. i recently bought a mobile 1 5 quart jug of 10w30 and a mobile 1 M1-111A filter that is quite small compared to the old delco ph35 or whatever it was. it's more like the short style stock filter. you guys are making me wonder if it is a pos filter now

As for pulling off the adapter plate for the filter, I don't see why not unless you also lose the oil cooler if you have one?
