Default Speed sensor staying more miledge than actual

Hello. I have a 1991 Corvette and when i purchased it had 115,000 miles back in March 2018. I drove the car maybe 4 weeks that summer. Fast forward to the present March 2019 speedometer states 196,000..somethings terribly wrong. I drove the car yesterday for the 1st time this year and i noticed the speedometer was saying i was doing 100 mph, when i was actually around 40 mph or so. I need some assistance on what i should be looking for .

Thanks

Yours will be a 'button' on the DIC and says ENG & MET next to INST/AVG 'button'. Top right.

Might want to peruse the owners manual at some point.
