1st welcome to the forum

When the power supply on the digital cluster starts going bad all kinds of weird things happen.

Checkout crazyuncleburton on youtube and he's got fix it videos for most digital cluster repairs.

This one in particular:

Bryan at batee.com will also fix for a fee.

Also the capacitors in the power supply dry out. Some technicians replace the capacitors, others the whole supply with a modern unit. Another common failure is the pin connectors between the 2 printed main circuit boards. Those can be replaced as well but do check grounds.

Mine would do this and then also randomly shut off. It ended up being a cold solder joint(s) on the board pin connector. Free of you have an iron to touch them up. My tach randomly freaks out every once and a while still but everything else is fine. That's probably a ground problem though.

I'd first make sure you have your gauges set on the "English" version and not "metric". You would not be the first guy to have the switch flipped.

You could also have your battery tested. My cluster went crazy right before my battery died.
