Default Rubber whip antenna?

Anyone replaced the buggy electric antenna on their C4 with a modern rubber whip?
I'd think a modern antenna would have at least as good reception (if not better) as our old fashioned "Up & Down Stick". LOL

Gotta be a reason - or 10 - that nobody uses the old fashioned ones anymore ...

If my stock motorized antenna ever breaks, I'd replace it with something like this I found on Ebay. Bet the reception would be the same, and cost way less than replacing the OEM antenna. Of course there would be some fabricating/modifying to do before this would work.

Finding a BASE is apparently the issue.
I'm looking for something that could be used on a C4, specifically a convertible.
Various masts (like you use on a C5) won't cut it, there is no base on the C4.

Still looking ...

I bought one on ebay for like $8. Worked fine.

Got a picture or link of some kind?
Trying to avoid those hideous ball-joint adjustable base jobs.

Any suggestions for a modern styled antenna? I don't want another motorized job.

What ever type you buy, stay away from the stubby ones that look like a lonely lady's "Lil' Friend"

I thought I heard that someone took the motorized one out and patched the hole and painted to match. For an antenna, they use one that is stuck on to the glass and amplified. I tried that eons ago and got pretty good results.

I was hearing about those hidden antennas.

my current plan is to fill the hole, and install it either under the dash, or under the trim of the b pillar.

Good luck on hiding that type of antenna and having clear reception, especially with AM radio.

More than 10 years ago, it was OK. Newer cars have been fine too.

AM isn't in use much, is it?

AM radio is my retro way of hearing my up-to-date daily news, weather and traffic while driving in southern California.

I usually read my news online. Same with weather. Don't know but how does the traffic app work in your area?
