gear cahnge:)
wanting to install 4:09 gears in my 89 6 spd...has any body done this?? looking for a good supplier of gears and any tricks to the swap... is there a diff in the gear needed depending on original gear ratio?? will i need to change the carrier if above a certain ratio.. lookinmg for some imput:) any help is appreciated thanks chuck :cheers:

Since you already have a 6speed, you already have the D44 carrier. So all youd have to do is change the ring and pinion.
However, 4.10s and a L98 dont mix the best. But at least youll have use for 6th gear.

may i ask y the 4:10 and L-98 don't mix?? and your right i'm looking for a more practical use of sixth gear other than cruise at 75... 1st seems to high and sixth is almost worthless... i've got a friend with 93..he love's the 4:09's but bought his allready installed ...

They go perfectly with the 93, because the LT1 engine likes alot of gear. It makes its power at a higher rpm than our L98s do.
L98 makes power all at low rpms, so with a 4.10 gear, youll be out of your power band so quick that youll probably be much slower.

You probably want 4.10 viper or Toms 4.11. I have tomsdifferentials 4.11s with no issues. They run about 200 for the set. A superram might be a better upgrade first.
