Default ceramic coating for headers

is the additional $225 to $250 expense of having headers coated worth the money spent? what are the advantages?

heat retention... so to speak.

the heat stays inside the header, keeping the engine compartment cooler.

that is always a good thing.

Also, they are less prone to rust... so they will last longer and look better.

personnally, I would use Jet Hot Coatings.

IMO yes, it is worth it. Of course mine are coated so I would have to say that. :D

But really, I haven't noticed any difference in floorboard or engine compartment temp since putting the headers on. Another forum member was telling me about his floorboard getting hot from headers. To the point of burning the undercarriage. And then they also look very nice too. Here is a couple of pics of before and after. And one pic from after installation.

Before

After

And from underneath

Yes, it is heat retention, but less heat dissipated in the engine bay is a by-product of the real reason.
Headers improve exhaust flow by using the exhaust pulse of one cyl, to pull the exhast gases out of another cylinder. (This is also why you need all primaries the same length.) As the hot exhaust gases cool they slow. i.e. If you can keep them hot, they continue to move quickly. Faster moving gases = better scavanging.
The ceramic paint helps keep the heat in the gas, improving the scavanging effect of the header.
You want internal and external ceramic coatings. It will last longer and work better. JetHot does this.
OK schools out.
