Default 91 auto transmission shift cable issue

Long story short I kinked my shift cable while reinstalling my trans from my past motor/trans build. Located a new cable and installed (nothing to it) but now when I shift thru the gears it hits all the gears and goes into park but does not go into park 100% On the shifter in the car it does but when I crawl back under the car I can still click the arm off the transmission forward about a 1/2" and then it goes 100% into the park position. Has anyone had this problem when replacing the shifter cable? Very frustrating knowing this is the last thing I need to do for the project to be complete. The wheels are off the ground currently on a lift not sure if that could have anything to do with it not going into park fully? I'm lost at this point there should be nothing to it at all. Only other thing I can think of is the arm/bracket that the cable cotter pins to could need to be adjusted on the transmission? Didn't really want to move anything around on the transmission though without knowing. Any info or tips would be greatly appreciated!

The arm on the transmission is just a lever if you have a little bit if preload keeping it from settling into park loosen the bolt let it settle. I had similar when we would swap out factory rebuilds

Are you saying to loosen the bolt on the transmission while the linkage is in place in the park position and tighten back up when it clicks towards the rear of the car that 1/2" difference?

thanks!
