I didn't think you were being condescending in your post. I thought it was an interesting question. I wrote the slow race car/ fast street car as I was musing and I didn't think it would be picked up on.
Around here the cops are in full force because we have a huge ricer population and they are cracking down. It easy to be at the wrong location at the wrong time, so I've had to build my ride to look and sound like there goes "just an other gray haired old fart driving a Vette re-living his youth". I've managed so far, but it's not easy getting a car to run very fast and appear stock. The gray haired old part was easy. :) BTW all I have left to do is put on my new polished GS wheels and box the exhaust tips.

If I could get my Vette into the low to mid 12's, I'd be happy.
yup, and now that I have the '96 CE for a daily driver I'm free to really hot rod my '74 a little more. Off comes the AC, on go the AFR 190s and 1.6 roller rockers. Who know what else...
I already don't drive the '74 enough, might as well make it faster!

A friend of mine is building an 84 that should do about 9.50:eek: when he finishes it, an no it definately is no longer a crossfire.

There's a guy in our club and also one of the "Chicago Wise Guys" who has a '59 vette. Real '59 body, doors, etc but is framed out. Street legal, can run on the road, and has competed in those drive and drag events. You have to drive a 25 mile run and then drag it after cool down without lifting the hood or changing anything. His car has been on the cover of many vette Mags as he owns a body shop and restoration facility. Don't know if this qualifies as a real vette for you but he run's 7.11's in the quarter, maybe even faster.
Hope this helps! :chevy

Too bad he is changing the intake. I am going for the fastest street X-Fire with the original Intake.

Hey Wedge and Red84CrossFire, I was thinking that if you changed the CF setup and went with a 4bbl TBI injector, or 2 2bbl TBI injectors that would work even better than the CF and still work with the stock Ecm. The thing is that the CF runs two injectors with two drivers, You splice the main source of the stock ECM and run extra wires to a Scrap ECM which will amplify the impulse to run two more injectors. Then you could run 4 TBI's which would be like a carb, good for a Roots if you put one on top of your engine, or NA. I got the idea from (Joby) which gave some pics and ways of doing this.
As for the fastest, Yeah I think a Corvette that can actually get to the track without the use of a TRAiler to haul it around. Secound I would think that the doors should work, Windows, Also their should be A/C, Radio, Passenger seat, things that are for real, no fake vette. I think that it is eady to get a Car to run down the track that fast, but to make it FAIR , it should be stock appearing, no blower scoops, or chuts.

I've met that guy, he owns Performance Restorations up in Libertyville, if I recall correctly. The purple '59, right? Nice guy, knows a lot about vettes, I hear he does excellent work. I went over there to get a quote about fixing my drivers door and...he's certainly not cheap.
Hope this helps

DAng that pretty FAST 7.11's in the quarter, I think this is all out fast, but I'm looking for one that has A/C, Smog, Functional everything, nothing taken out to make it lighter because that would be like just helping it out to become a single purpose Drag Car, not a street sar as well. :D

Sort of leaves me out of the running there. I deleted air pump and A/C. Heck, the oder vettes didn't have an air pump and A/C was an option. I can drive my car to the track, I even drive it to work once in a while. Looks bone stock just sitting there until you start it up. It runs 11's.... 10's with "sissy gas". :chevy

I'll have to get some scanned in. I am a new member as you can tell by my # of posts. I have not had time to build a web page with pics, etc. I'll get some pics and send you a couple. Jpegs most likley. My vette looks bone stock with the hood down. The 3" exhaust and pipes are a clue. I had it in the Chevy/Vettefest two weekends ago in Chicago. Anyway I'll send you a few pics in the next few days.

What mods did you have to make in order to get the TH400 in there. Also if your running a TH400 which has a 1:1 gear in 3rd and you have 3.73 rear gears with assuming 25inch tires that would be-3,000rpm at 60mph-Then you would only be at 120mph at 6,000rpm? Or do you have a overdrive unit?

To get the 400 in required a custom tailshaft housing to made. This housing had the exterior bolt pattern and length of an 700R4 so that it bolts right into the stockC4 trans mounts (C-Clamp). The internals (bushings etc.) and the interface to the 400 case (bolt pattern, etc.) where made to match a 400.
This was made of aircraft aluminum by a tool & die friend of mine. As far as the gear ratio and tire diameter you are close. usually run with drag radials on 17" wheels, a bit taller I think than 25", but you are still close at the RPM/MPH figures. My redline is 8100 rpm. So I can do 130 at 6500 rpm with no problem. I have a purpose built, from the ground up race motor. Hope this helps. :chevy

As you probably can guess, I didn't build this car for milage on the highway.
with that said, The best I get is about 11 miles per gal. I usually stay at 55-65 hue to the high rev's. I don't take long highway trips. Also it gets a regular diet of 100 octane. This car goes to cruise nights, drag races, shows, Saturday night fun runs looking for vipers, hot stangs, etc. When I go to drag strips more than 50 miles or so away I trailer it. I have been thinking of the Gear vendors overdrive unit however. But for the money, is it really worth it?
I suppose it would help me get to 150 mph. Hmmmm :yesnod:
