I have removed an original fuel sending unit from a 1988 C4 Corvette (1988 fuel sending units are unique for some reason?)
And I see a few differences between in and the new replacement/reproduction sending unit.
Some vendors show photos of a new reproduction sending unit with this white electrical box clip onto a metal bracket (see photos of my original) yet when queried they report current stock dosn't have such fitted.
The one I received instead has its black, purple, grey electrical wiring continuous to the base-plate connector.
So wondering is this small white box some sort of insulator/protector and is it necessary or specifically required for 1988 Corvette - or can I do without and use this new replacment as is? Original 1988 C4 Corvette Sending unit
That is just a block of silicone to make absolutely sure that the wires don't chafe under any circumstances. Whether it's necessary or not is up to you, though most cars don't have it and don't spontaneously explode, so there's that.
