Default Rear Side Marker problem

While checking out spare tire and rear area I may have rubbed against the rear side marker lens and popped it out. I see now that both rear side marker lights are glued in from the inside. For now at least I want to reglue the fixture back in. Any recommendations as to what to use for glue? The good side looks like some kind of thick black adhesive. Only thing I have right now is 3m super weatherstrip and gasket adhesive. I don't want to put something on there and then have to remove it for the proper adhesive.
Thanks

what year?

on the early cars there is supposed to be tabs on the marker light body, and small grooves to set the tabs into.

They all have tabs. And screws up top to secure.

Yes, from searching around evidently some side markers were put in like t his. The year is 1990. There is an arm on the inside with a screw hole but nothing to screw into. The fixture actually doesn't fit flush on the outside either. I see no way to reattach w/o gluing. It looks like they came from the factory this way and actually not the proper light fixture. Beats me what went on but this car has not been customized in any way and in good shape. Just not sure what to use as an adhesive.

They were not glued in. It will have screws. You are missing the last of nit that secures it in place.

Here's a picture of the good side. Tough place to take a picture. Notice the arm with the hole in it. There is just one arm and not being used. Other photo shows what is holding the fixture.

adhesive holding fixture in

Screw tab not being used. Only one tab and nothing to screw into.

My 86 was like this. It was a late model back end that has been installed onto an early model car.

I would guess that it has been in an accident and repaired improperly. Your good side pic shows a lot of resin that shouldn't be there.

No, no accident. Car is local and I know the history. Not sure where the resin is your looking at. The big blob in one pix was put there to hold the light fixture in. The only explanation is it was done in the factory that way for some reason. Not the only time.

Not ever on the worst day of the C4 production line, would that have been an acceptable installation and sent down the line.

Well, you guys are a lot more knowledgeable about this than I as far as the body. The car had 2 previous owners. The first did not have the car for very long and if anything was done it would have been then. I bought the car from the second owner who is not aware of any accidents etc. Other than the side markers not being right it sure is hard to tell the bumper was replaced. The amount of crud in there I would say whatever was done was done a long while ago. At least for now I'm just going to cement it back in rather then spend a lot for new side markers when other things may come up that are more important, mainly the running gear. Regardless, thanks for your help.

Original bumper would be a yellowish color on the inside as it is urethane. This is black and without a high quality photo, but it looks like a fiberglass replacement. The inside of the bumper is also not showing recessed area where the black belt line molding is attached with studs coming through with nuts to secure it. The 84-90 used that style to secure the reflector.

The 91+ cars had an additional bracket that was pop riveted to the bumper and had two mounts for the reflector to be mounted with screws at the top.

It may not have been an accident, but could be a replacement "ZR-1" style to get the 4 rectangle lights instead of the 4 round ones.

oh well now u know. my 86 looked really good with that bumper!!

the install was pretty ghetto and infact i did use double sided 3m tape to hold mine in flush. it looked fairly good when done.

Thats a fiberglass bumper. I just installed my front and rears. You can see some pics on my posts.

You have to fabricate a way on all 4 markers to hold them in place. Looks like someone used hull adhesive to goop them in instead of making brackets. If you look at the inside of the bumper, in the middle towards the ground, you will probably see the mold tag telling you who made it. But that dosent matter.

If the bumper is installed (obviously it is) only good way would be to make the brackets out of the car, then bond them into place. Only good way to do it at this point.

Good luck
