Yeah you can rebuild the alternator and replace the regulator and the diodes and probably the bearings. Normally you would buy a refurbished unit and exchange your old one. In this case the OP in a his thread was asking about upgrading the alternator with a CS 144 which is a good option for an 84.

MikeP84 isn’t the OP. He has low output and considered changing the alt for that reason. Bad regulator ($20) could be the cause.

That’s right he’s not. This was Bills thread about replacing his alternator And mike has added his question. However the fact still remains that if you are going to open up an alternator you should replace the diodes and bearings as well as the regulator.

?? Sounds a little testy there. Not a fact to replace all that, just a personal preference. No bearing noise or feel, diode pack good but regulator bad. Just change the regulator.
Agree to disagree here it seems.

For me its if I'm there I might as well I suppose. I bought a whole rebuild kit including bearings and regulator for like 23$. Cheap enough and easy to do but if it is fairly new I don't see the need either... with my luck however the thing would cone apart shortly after... but thats my luck.

Really? I assumed that English probably wasn’t you first language based on some of your earlier post, so I just simplified my responses.

Yeah that’s the way it usually goes. When I rebuilt my motor I replaced the water pump. There was nothing wrong with the old one but ......

I should've done mine... it came apart 2 months later and was original. Made noise too.

If water pump was making noise than especially change it.

This post is why I assumed English wasn’t your first language. It’s not a criticism being multilingual is something to be proud of. But if that’s not so I guess it’s just a case of word soup.
