There is such a thing as the Search button. Try using it once in a while...

Mike

hey, take it easy! We were all new here at one time. If everyone that was new were treated this way, there wouldn't be a forum.

lighten up.

Long time no talk. I've been away for a bit. Do you still have my vacuum pump? Just kidding. Can you please answer a question for me, what the heck is an OUTLAW MODERATOR?

Sorry for the Off Topic guys.

On a milder note: I looked at a thread that was refered to above. It mentioned cuting back the plugs or words to that effect. Could someone explain that for me. Much appreciated

will do my best although I am by no means an expert.

Im not even an expert on plug terminology, so dont laugh at me :lolg:

on the end of the plug, where you set the gap between the electrde and the bent wire, cut the bent wire at the "bend".

Use a file or emery stick to smooth the edges of the wire you just cut.

What this does is "open" the spark to the combustion chamber and allows a more efficient fuel burn. Claims of 5-10 hp have been made, but plug life is dramaticaly reduced.

Good description Phil, I did this on my 88 as part of a reqular tune up July 2002. I expect I'll have to do it again this July. Used AC Delco plugs. If you do an internet search you can find pictures of cut-back plugs if the desription doesn't help. It was peppier, but I haven't had a dyno done, won't have one either until I get my exhaust replaced. It will be over $100 and I'm hoping for 20 - 40 rwhp. I'll be happy with that.

That was funny, I'm sure they will Matt. Telling the women about your recent TB bypass upgrade gets them everytime. :D Even if it doesn't, some people say the TB bypass is worth 5-7 horsepower.

ok spanky. I got an 89 Auto coupe. I run 13.52 in the 1/4 mile with the stock 2.59 crap high way gears. I am the king of RIGGING shizil to work.
the L98 is loaded with tons of stuff you don't need....for instance a charcaol can and EVAP emissions....EGR valve, water pump frisbee, the coolant going throught the TB.... tons of FREE HP on the L98....just a matter of getting your hands dirty! i'll list a few mods for ya.

-Cut the factory air filter lid with a dremel around the edges and use a KN filter
-Use a Dremel and port the ever living shizil out of the factory air box int he throat area.....tons of improvements there. dont be shy....go to town. round it out.
-160degree thermostat and a fan switch. 165-188degrees is good running temp.
-REMOVE THE HEAVY weight frisbee "THING" on the water pump pulley...useless POS. GM should of saved the money.
-get a heater hose connector and some hose clamps....bypass the water going throught the Throttle body.
-get a 3 wire Bosch O2 sensor from Autozone....forget the part number. its 49.99 roughly in price and a TPS harness from the zone too and make a "heated 3 wire" O2 sensor instead of that 1 wire POS.
-relocate the IAT sensor from the underside of the plenum to the air box on the side....and use the LS1 IAT sensor....Autozone.... LT1 works too i think. and just use a PCV grommet and large drill bit on the air box.... solder some wire to extend the factory harness.....and then trim the harness edges to fit the LT1/LS1 IAT sensor. BIG improvement spanky!!!!
-NGK SPark plugs.....good god did they HELP out!!!!!! NO BOSCH plugs...platnum is BAD..... NGK coppers or V grooves are GOOD>>>> NO PLatnum. standard NGK's man!!!
-run tru dual exhuast....2.5"...no cats, H pipe....40 series flow masters.
-Stg 2 BM shift kit...do it your self Pu%%y...... lol i did mine....hell i do everything.
-MODIFY the MAF sensor. (just get a new one from TPIS) your old one might be bad. TPIS.....
-TPS enhancer
-Air pump eliminator kit.....but beware....you'll snap your alternator...i welded a bracket to fit like OEM style.... easy.
-port the Plenum to holy Hellls
-24lb/hr Accel injectors....but you'll need a custom chip. Hypertech can suck my DIsick. talk to jesse on here..... Ski_dwn_it
-Hypertech coil kit and MSD 6AL box
that should do the L98 some good...and most of that is free...or very very cheap. put me running 13.52 and thats with a missfire....msd wires cracked. just run AC delco wires. you better be able to rig and do all this yourself.... b/c no garage is gonna do this for you. just remember....throwing money at a car.....and parts won't make you go fast. i whoop up on C5's and HIgh dollar C4's with those magazine $$ drivers.....hehehehe..... and mines pretty much stock....jsut some slight mods...to the factory parts. cya

I knew you were a moderator, but thought outlaw moderator was something new.

I do intend to make the CI again this year. Who do I see about getting the CRUISE IN III under my name like you do. I have the Distance Traveled Award on my wall. That should be enough proof.

Take care, hope to see you in BG in May.

Take it easy fellas...

I see that stingray has finally responded to one of his threads. Please accept my apologies for calling you a troll. It is true however that there is a lot of knowledge tied up in the archives of this Forum. The current Search utility is much quicker than the old one and is a great tool imho...

heres what i did to my 89 coupe and the results i got:

- 100% bone stock: 13.9 at 99mph with 2.0 60ft
- flowmaster cat back : 13.8 at 99mph w 2.1 60ft
- cut lid w K&N: 13.6 at 100mph w 1.9 60ft
- free mods (frisbee delete, ported plenum, 160* stat, descreened MAF), airfoil, AFPR: 13.4 at 1-2mph w 1.9 60ft
- MAD front ypipe, DRs, bumped timing: 13.2 at 104mph w 1.8 60ft

since then ive done a throttle body coolant bypass, installed TPIS cold air, and am in the process of installing a 2500 stall converter. i should be seeing some 12.8s at 106 with these mods this Feb when the track reopens
